Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" on Nintendo Switch Engadget Nintendo is about to buy its second close ally in as many years. Eurogamer reports that Nintendo is acquiring SRD, one of its oldest game development partners. 

SRD has worked with Nintendo since the NES era and more recently has helped with Switch hits like Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Animal Crossing: New Horizons. In light of that, it's almost surprising that Nintendo hasn't bought SRD before. The purchases are expected to close on April 1, Nintendo didn't say how much it paid for SRD, but the developer will become a wholly owned subsidiary. 

The company bought the creator of Luigi's Mansion Next Level Games in January 2021. It's not an aggressive move like Microsoft's takeover of Activision Blizzard  or Sony's acquisition of Bungie - not that Nintendo is interested, the  You.Company mind Shuntaro Furukawa recently said that investors have no intention of buying.
