Investing.com – Canada: Equity markets ended the session higher on Wednesday; growth in the Energy , Materials and Information Technology sectors contributed to this increase.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX index gained 0.56%.

The best performance of the session for the S&P/TSX index is to be credited to the title Ero Copper Corp (TSX: ERO ) up 7.45% or 1.38 points for a closing price of 19.90. In second position, we find Teck Resources Ltd B (TSX: TECKb ) which gained 7.14% or 3.62 points for a close at 54.35. The title Energy Fuels Inc. (TSX: EFR ) completes this top three with an increase of 7.12% or 0.90 points for an end of the session at 13.54.

TransAlta Renewables Inc. (TSX: RNW ) posted the worst performance of the session, losing 3.32% or 0.64 points for a closing price of 18.62. North West Company Inc (TSX: NWC ) fell 2.41% or 0.95 points to close at 38.54. For its part, Waste Connections Inc (TSX: WCN ) lost 1.84% or 3.29 points for a closing price of 175.69.

Rising stocks outnumbered falling stocks on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 686 values ​​to 338 and 128 flat.

On the other hand, gold for June delivery gained 0.10% or 1.90 points to $1.00 per troy ounce. Regarding other commodities, crude oil for delivery in May rose by 3.72% or 3.74 points for a price of $104.34 per barrel, while Brent for delivery in June gained 4.09% or 4.28 points for a price of $108.92 a barrel.

The CAD/USD pair was unchanged at 0.59% at 0.80, while the CAD/EUR pair was flat at 0.06% at 0.73.

The US Dollar Index fell 0.39% to 99.90.
